Launch Party: Trulife Collagen Manuka Max

Following my review on TruLife Collagen Manuka Max, I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for this amazing new contender in the collagen market!

The launch was held last Friday, 4 March, at the homely Two Bakers Cafe on Horne Road, just opposite the Jalan Besar Stadium. Upon arrival, we were greeted by this gorgeous dessert bar!

If you’ve never visited Two Bakers Cafe, it’s time you should! Known for bespoke birthday cakes, artisan pastries and one-of-a-kind, crafted-to-order desserts, the cafe’s pastry chefs boast credentials from the Le Cordon Bleu. You can pretty much guess why desserts were one of the highlights of the evening. The Panna Cotta, Mini Chocolate Cake (oh-so-pretty), and the Yuzu Lemon Mini Tarts were simply to-die-for.

Other Trulife products, such as the Berry Eye Health, also found their way into some of these desserts. I found it novel to incorporate health supplements into indulgent food.Trulife Manuka Max Collagen Desserts

Well this is my true intention 😀

Okay back to the talk of the day: Trulife Collagen Manuka Max.

Midway through dinner we were given a short introduction to the brand and product, as a prelude to Collagen Cocktails and Desserts. Essentially, Trulife is a contemporary health-care brand which aims to answer the health and lifestyle needs of today’s society through developing products that contain a combination of herbal and western ingredients. Founded in 1971, the brand has since evolved into a custom formulator and contract manufacturer of private label health and food supplements.

The Collagen Manuka Max is their latest product, which has been pushed to major pharmacies, including Watsons and Guardian stores nation-wide, earlier this month. Each bottle of Trulife Collagen Manuka Max is packed with 7000mg of Micro Marine Collagen Peptides that have been clinically proven to help improve your skin’s structure and firmness.

Each bottle contains 7,000mg of collagen, Manuka Honey, Cynatine, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, B2, B3 and B6, as well as Zinc. Plus, put your mind at ease, as the product has no added sugar, nor any form of additives and colouring.

The new collagen drink is packed with a protein Cynatine known to reduce wrinkles, promote skin elasticity, improve nail strength and reduce hair loss. We all already know how collagen repairs UV spot damages, promotes clearer complexion, improves skin appearance, and is a valuable component of any beauty regime. More information in my previous post (link here).

Dieters, this will not ruin your diet plans – you’ll be delighted to know that the product is naturally sweetened with 100% pure and natural Manuka Honey that helps to give you a nutritional boost every day. Additionally, studies have found that Manuka Honey is actually beneficial at reducing reflux and balancing your digestive system to heal stomach and intestinal imbalances, hence aiding digestion. For me, this drink has been a delicious add-on to my daily supplement intake.

One of the chefs at Two Bakers’ Cafe gave us a demonstration on a special mocktail/cocktail recipe formulated with Trulife Collagen Manuka Max (which has a unearthly green colour, but is perfect for fancy cocktails!) We all got to try a glass of this unique cocktail.

Cocktail with Trulife collagen manuka max

Wanted to give more airtime to the yummy desserts. The unassuming cup of yellow jello-looking thing is Panna Cotta, made with Trulife Collagen Manuka Max and it was my favourite dish of the night! The frosty glass on the left is the aforementioned cocktail. And the chocolate cake is on the right with the fancy sail made of white chocolate on top.

Seriously, everybody loved the Panna Cotta dessert! The recipe for it includes a full bottle of TruLife Collagen Manuka Max to produce the honey gelee, on top of the 1/2 cup of peach juice, 1 tsp of gelatin and 2 tablespoons of water. The resulting panna cotta gelee is moderately sweet and fruity enough to pass off as a healthy jelly dessert. The panna cotta base is incredibly soft-whipped, I must say!

TruLife even revealed the full recipe, and I’m gonna try my hands at making one of these! (Psst…want the recipe? DM me!)

I'm here for Collagen Max!

Those were the main highlights of the launch party.

Also gotta say, dinner at Two Bakers Cafe was amazing – I chose the Butternut Mushroom Risotto from the menu, which was the dish-less-selected as opposed to the traditional Aglio Olio. All my table neighbors could smell a heavy dash of truffle oil. And those who tried the risotto agreed it was the better of 2. Honestly the last good risotto I had was at Venice in 2013! Heartening to know a place that serves a mean risotto in Singapore.

It is a compact but carb-loaded heavyweight, so don’t be fooled by its portion here.

The rest who had aglio olio couldn’t help digging into my risotto. Altogether it was a lovely night mingling with the other bloggers and friends. Truly grateful to Trulife and Blackbox SG for bringing us together!

BlackBox SG – Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula (TDF) Skincare Review

This beautiful trio arrived in the mail sometime ago. Thank you BlackBox SG for allowing me to review this classic TDF set!

Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula (TDF) is a respected name in the field of aesthetic dermatology hence I was super psyched to test out skincare products endorsed by many medical derma-professionals.

These are the products in the trio (from left to right):

☆ Non-Drying Cleansing Lotion (100ml)
☆ Age Defense PA+++ UVA/UVB SPF 50+ Sunscreen (50g)
☆ Light Textured Moisturizer (50g)

Now let’s test them out!

Non-Drying Cleansing Lotion (100ml)

TDF’s Non-Drying Lotion is part of a series designed for dry, dehydrated skin. This cleanser is specially formulated to thoroughly cleanse delicate sensitive skin without irritation, and at the same time protect the skin’s natural moisture barrier. The product doesn’t lather before or after contact with water (hence the thickness), which makes the cream slightly difficult to wash off at first.

I discovered that with a little finger scrubbing, my skin can be thoroughly cleansed and oil-free after washing with the product, without feeling as though all moisture has been sucked from it. When I needed a little bit more help removing makeup residues on my eyelids and lashes, this soft cleanser did the job for me. Kudos!

I’m always experimenting with new cleansers, but was surprised by the creamy, thick texture of TDF’s Non-Drying Lotion. Didn’t trust that it could wash my face well, but it surprisingly did!

Age Defense PA+++ UVA/UVB SPF 50+ Sunscreen (50g)

TDF’s Age Defense PA+++ UVA/UVB SPF50+ Sunscreen is clinically proven to protect our skin from sunburns, skin darkening and future photo damage. This high performance sunscreen provides maximum blockage against age-inducing UVA and harmful UVB rays with PA+++ rating and ultra microfine zinc oxide.

I love how the product delivers its non-whitening, non-oily and fragrance free promise, which is something I dislike about most sunscreens. It is also enriched with the powerful antioxidant CoQ10 for maximum sun protection.

Will show you how the product looks like upon application! In the second (unfiltered) photo is how my skin looks 2 minutes after rubbing the sunscreen in. There’s zero coverage, but definitely forms a visible, thin sheer layer.

After a short wait, my skin is neither oily nor sticky. Re-application is definitely necessary for sea sports and outdoor activities, as the product wears off like all sunscreens do. I discovered that this also works perfectly as makeup base on thin coverage days.

In Singapore’s tropical climate, sun damage causes a lot of pre-mature skin aging. Hence this layer of protection is crucial to maintaining  youthful skin. As part of TDF’s Age Defense Line, there are also products in the series complementing this sunscreen for anybody who’s afraid of getting sunspots!

Light Textured Moisturizer (50g)

TDF’s Light Textured Moisturizer is a sheer, lightweight fragrance-free formula that can be used alone or double up as your makeup base or primer. The cream formula has a quick-drying nature, and does not leave much oily residue. It locks in moisture and prevents further moisture loss, thereby improving skin texture and overall clarity.

I’m picky about the kind of moisturisers I use. This moisturizer doesn’t get absorbed as quickly or completely as I would have liked, but it’s definitely a great value-for-money over-the-counter product!

When applied to my skin, in 2 quick minutes the formula was almost fully absorbed by my skin, leaving behind a smooth exterior, and minimal stickiness. In a few hours, when applied alone, I find my skin producing less oils than usual, possibly as my skin was well-moisturized. I personally use this over one of my trusted skin serums for added moisture.

I’m glad that these products, though full-sized, are also convenient for travelling. Even better, they come in tester-sizes at BlackBox SG’s online store! Apply my code ‘BBXJEAN10‘ at checkout for 10% discount off your entire purchase!

Out of these 3 products, I grew to rely a lot on TDF’s Sunscreen, so much so I’m applying it on a daily basis.

[MUA] Channeling Oriental Vibes

Like many Asians, I used to hate my mono-lids. Except mine aren’t exactly mono per se – only tucked away under an inch of skin. My younger self was an avid fan of thick grunge-rock black eyeliner. And my mantra was that the thicker the eyeliner, the more ‘made-up’ and glam I looked. With my eyes closed, I literally had to colour my lids with 2cm of black ink before a significant line could be seen above my eyes upon opening them. And truth be told, I went through pots of black eyeliner faster than Taylor Swift changed her boyfriends.

Since then I’ve learnt to embrace my almond shaped, slitty Asian eyes, and to play with ’em God-given oriental features. My favourite Asian models – Liu Wen and Mingxi could always rock the runway despite the decidedly Western VS culture. Besides the fact that they have much bigger eyes (or perhaps proportionally smaller faces) than I do, monolids never stopped them from wearing bolder looks. Brown, taupe, peach and gold eyeshadow looks amazing on Asian skin, and so does bright red on the lips. In fact, reds in any shade (brights, dark) and texture (shimmer, gloss, matte) goes perfectly as lip accessories.

Liu Wen looking amazing in smokey-blue.

I wasn’t exactly recreating her look, but merely matching my day-to-night makeup with an oriental floral dress. As the occasion beckons (a friend’s wedding),  I could really afford to glam it up.

One thing I’ve learnt from watching too-many makeup videos is that on Asian monolids the cat-eye always works.  Brows:

As I got older, pink stopped being a fail-safe lip colour – women in their mid-20s could risk looking juvenile with overly sweet pink. I find that reds, mauve or rose are the new safety nets. On days I feel more adventurous, I go for deep purples and plums, which are great for matching cool-toned outfits. Peach and coral lips are for those barely-there days.

With lips I’m clearly a bit of a fanatic. – this is only half of my gloss collection which started 3 years ago. My favourites are, hands-down, Maybelline (love their plum shades, and their gloss always smells delish!), MAC (stays on forever) and NYX (not in this shot – I have more than 10 of those because they come in sooooo many yummy colours I wanna bite my own lips sometimes). I could share more of them next time! Which brands are your faves?

If I could I would wear lipstick to bed 😉
