[ROME] A NIGHT AT THE VATICAN

Probably the only time you can catch the night scene outside St Peter’s Square is if you spend the night at Vatican City, or if you’re reading this as I’m about to show you a couple of my night scene captures. Outside St Peter’s Basilica on the day we arrived, there was a huge preparation for an important religious mass that would take place the day after, hence in the evening and well into the night, throngs of people gathered outside St Peter’s Square, setting up temporary food stalls and flea-market style cabins showcasing collections of costume jewellery, fine jewellery, art, tourist mementos, souvenirs, little collectibles of Vatican’s finest architecture, and flowers – from fine skinny stalks to big fluffy bouquets. As midnight approached, the crowd thinned, and melancholic street-lamps were just about the only ones creating shadows on the sidewalks. This is Vatican City at night, for you.

Shut Up and Dance

Remember this? My favourite NUS Dance Blast Shut Up and Dance (SUAD) Concert 2011 choreography by Xuzi, Erwin and Kevin. This video was taken (by Ulrica!!) during one of our last few vetting sessions with April Rodriguez, Joesar Alvar and Pat.

It was a flurry of costume changes (twice during the 5-minute item), and running left right centre to get to our positions, but nonetheless we had awesome choreographers who guided us along and gave us the best tips and advice we could ever get from our seniors.

In the same year we did April and Joesar’s collabo piece as a 10th anniversary special item.

And also the killer finale item by our blast father Pat, which required even more hurried costume changes and running everywhere.

This year, for our Blast EMCC we’ll be putting up the alumni item, where some of us graduated (Blast-eds) are coming back with a piece. Reliving the good ol’days of dancing as a team and slogging it out at the arts campus’s AS7. Really looking forward to EMCC 2014, not entirely because I miss performing and the stage… I really miss those days where we could dance without a care in the world, and spend all our after-school hours training for a concert.

Thank you for the good memories ^^

Viktoria Jean

Brisbane, King George Square

Someday I’d wish to be a true backpacker in Brisbane;
just my haversack & laptop for a couple of weeks.
Too many amazing streets to stroll along, colors and sights to see,
vintage buildings to admire, and entertaining buskers to applaud.
Liberal-minded people to talk to and be impressed by.
Talents abound and magic to be discovered.

Pictorial Walk-through…of BRISBANE!!
Because I literally went everywhere on foot.

For many reasons, I’m so thankful this came out blurred.
Firstly I was out gallivanting alone right after a much-needed sleep.
This bunch of men came up to ask for a photo, as if they’ve never seen Asians in their land.
So they took this shot with my camera as well as this person’s phone.
I was so afraid they were gonna run away with my digicam.
Still, strange yet funny. photo DSCN1692.jpg

AMAZING BUSKERS!! I met a magician that day which amazed the hell out of me.
This band, PLUDO, were just as entertaining.
Will be uploading videos of them soon! They have their own CDs and gigs,
but they’re doing street busking to garner more popularity. photo DSCN1742.jpg

My take-home drystores and snacks.
I was up till late writing that night at Pullman Brisbane King George Street,
and barely slept although the hotel bed was, as always, incredibly comfortable. photo DSCN1746.jpg

Brisbane was incredible. I’ll be back soon enough.
Just landed Taipei…
And next up, Copenhagen!!!
I’m quite tired to be very frank, but the adrenaline sets in whenever I touch down on somewhere new.
Where’s the sense of adventure if you’re out there and not exploring??

hotel mulia senayan May’13

One night in Jakarta without setting foot proper in the capital
is a pity, but I was sincerely too sleepy from jet lag
and screwed-up cyclical body rhythms to get up from the comfortable bed.
Here’s to the apparition that is me, that is not quite there in Jakarta.

162. urban picnic

Introducing, the best things that happened to me in the University:enqikrisjoyceyz

Gardens by the Bay is really pretty!
Just less so in the hot sun and erratic weather, thus we consumed the picnic goodies beside the ticketing booth like a boss.
I need to go there again in the night with the lights up!

What we learnt that day: Kris makes really good pasta & egg mayo!
And I take really bad polaroids.

And then the urbanites retreated to the comfort of air-conditioning in town.

Life’s good (:
